Gracinha Viterbo, designer of Viterbo Interior Design, brings glamour to hip hotels and shares design secrets you can use in your own home.
Master Bedroom
1. Bedroom should feel soothing
Avoid having a pair of the same table lamps. Try using two smaller table lamps for one of the bedside tables.
2. Sweet Dreams
To make your bedroom look more like a hotel suite, Gracinha suggested a thick, fluffy bed, complete with mattress protector, duvet, and even throws. She says: “This is a simple item that you can change and have at home.”
3. Add drama to the room
Use wallpaper on the ceiling instead of the back bed wall. It is fun to look at while you’re lying down, but choose one you won´t get frustrated with easily.
4. Get a minibar
Says Gracinha: “This is a good treat for a master suite, and so you don’t have to get up in the middle of the night if you need something.”
5. Use soft, even lighting
And all shades or lights should be of the same colour to smoothen the mood of the room, too.
Kitchen & Dining Room
1. Get practical materials
“For example, think of the food you will dish up frequently, and choose materials that won´t absorb smell in the dining room,” says Gracinha.
2. Create “rooms within rooms”
If you have an open kitchen, have a bar in between so that it serves as a double-duty furniture – your friends will enjoy chilling out at this area, while you cook.
3. Choose furniture in flowing designs.
Says Gracinha: “Think about how you use the kitchen: is it the heart of your home? So then you have to include it in some connection with the living room, if not, you will be breaking that connection frequently.”
