The stress of getting your house Christmas-ready for guests can sometimes damper your holiday spirit. Before that happens, get your home ready with these stress-free household fixes.
Carpets and Rugs
You’ve probably heard this before; when in a rush, sweep everything under the carpet. Carpets and rugs are great for hiding flaws in your flooring whether it’s an unsightly scratch or a frightening old stain.
It also helps brighten your living space, perfect for the festive ambience. If you do not have enough time to go rug shopping, give life to old carpets and rugs with a stash of hot water and salt. The salt brightens faded fiber and protects against further discoloration.
Peeling Wallpaper
Wallpapers are great for the festive spirit, but peeling wallpapers aren’t. Before you start freaking out, here is a quick tip to resolve this unsightly issue.
With a knife, gently smear wallpaper paste on to a piece of writing paper. Rub the paper against the underside of the peeling section. Press the wallpaper against the wall and in one smooth action slide the writing paper out. Smoothen any bubbled surfaces with a clean damp cloth.
Old Furniture
If your upholstered furniture has seen better days but is still too comfy and sturdy to be disposed, change it, without really changing it.
Give your old furniture a face-lift with new fabric upholstery. This is much more economical and eco-friendly than purchasing brand new furniture. For stain removal on leather upholstery, try rubbing out the stain with a non-acetone nail polish-remover pad.
